Mines Calculator

Multiplier and survival odds per tile

Mines pays you for every safe tile you open, and the multiplier grows because the odds of surviving the next click keep getting worse. This calculator reproduces the exact payout formula used by provably fair Mines games: the fair odds of surviving every pick in a row, reduced by the operator's house edge.

Set the grid size, how many mines are hidden and how many tiles you plan to open. You get the cash-out multiplier, the probability of actually getting there, the chance that your very next tile is safe, and the expected value of the whole play.

Standard Mines uses a 5x5 grid = 25 tiles.

Maximum 22 with this setup.

Multipliers are reconstructed from the provably fair formula used by crypto casinos. A live client may round the last decimal differently.

How to read the results

  • Win chance is the probability of opening every selected tile without hitting a mine — it drops fast with more mines.
  • The multiplier is the fair payout (1 / win chance) reduced by the house edge, which is how real Mines games price it.
  • Next tile safe tells you whether continuing is worth it: below roughly 80% most players cash out.
  • Expected value is negative on every setting; the house edge is the only thing that decides how negative.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Mines multiplier calculated?

The chance of opening k safe tiles in a row on a grid of n tiles with m mines is the product of (n-m-i)/(n-i) for i = 0 to k-1. The payout is 1 divided by that probability, multiplied by (1 - house edge), which is typically 1% on crypto casinos.

Is there a mine pattern or a best number of mines?

No. In a provably fair game the mine positions are drawn from a hashed server seed and your client seed, so no pattern exists. More mines means bigger multipliers and lower win chance — the expected value stays the same, only the variance changes.

What is the house edge on Mines?

Most crypto casinos run Mines at a 1% house edge, so a 99% RTP. Some operators use 2-4%. Enter the edge your casino publishes to get the exact multipliers you will see in the client.
